Pali Ballaleshwar darshan + an overnight stay: a simple plan

Ballaleshwar at Pali is one of the eight Ashtavinayak temples of Lord Ganesha in Maharashtra, and the only one named after a devotee: the young boy Ballal, whose faith, the story goes, brought Ganpati here. For many families from Mumbai and Pune, a Pali Ganpati darshan is a once-a-year ritual. Doing it in a single day means a very early start, long hours in the car and a tired drive back.

There is a calmer way: stay one night close to Pali and let the trip breathe.

Why stay overnight near Pali?

  • Darshan without the rush. Reach the temple early in the morning, before most day-trippers arrive.
  • Less driving in one go. Pali is roughly 3 hours by road from Mumbai. Splitting it over two days is far easier on elders and kids.
  • The Sahyadri hills, slowly. The Khopoli–Pali road runs through green valleys, especially beautiful from the monsoon to winter.

Our homes are on the Khopoli–Pali road, about 25 minutes from Pali Ballaleshwar and 15–20 minutes from Imagica, which makes them an easy base for an overnight stay near Pali Ganpati.

A simple two-day plan

Day 1: Drive, settle in, slow evening

  1. Leave Mumbai after breakfast and take the Mumbai–Pune Expressway to the Khalapur exit, then the Khopoli–Pali road.
  2. Check in from 1:00 PM, have lunch and rest. The township restaurant delivers to the flat, or you can cook something simple in the kitchen.
  3. Evening by the Amba river or a short walk in the countryside around Durshet. Back for chai on the balcony and an early night.

Day 2: Early darshan, easy drive home

  1. Leave by 6:30–7:00 AM for Pali. It's about a 25-minute drive.
  2. Darshan at Ballaleshwar while the temple is calmer. If you'd like a second Ashtavinayak darshan, Varadvinayak at Mahad, near Khopoli, is close to your route home.
  3. Back for breakfast, pack up, and check out by 10:00 AM, or ask us about a later check-out if the home is free.
Tip: check the current darshan and aarti timings locally before you go. They can change on festival days.

When is it busiest?

Expect bigger crowds on Sankashti Chaturthi, during Ganesh Chaturthi, around Maghi Ganesh Jayanti and on long weekends. A weekday darshan is the most peaceful. If you must go on a festival day, stay the night before and reach as early as you can.

What to carry

  • Modest, comfortable clothes for the temple
  • Easy-to-remove footwear (you'll leave shoes at the stands outside)
  • A small bag for prasad and flowers
  • Water bottles and snacks for the car
  • An umbrella or raincoat from June to September

Nearby, if you have time

  • Sudhagad fort, a scenic trek for the fit and curious
  • Unhere hot springs, near Pali
  • Imagica theme and water park, 15–20 minutes from our homes, a fun add-on if you're travelling with kids
